Joanna Young, DO FACP
Dr. Young is a hematologist oncologist at Blue Ridge Cancer Care in Virginia, USA. She graduated from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. She completed internal medicine residency at Carolinas Medical Center and hematology and oncology fellowship at Levine Cancer Institute, both in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the PI on a lung cancer trial with funding from the North Carolina Lung Cancer initiative. She is now in general practice at Blue Ridge Cancer Care in Blacksburg, Virginia where she sees a wide variety of benign and malignant conditions. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology. She completed additional training in cancer genetics through the City of Hope Intensive Course in Genetic Cancer Risk Assessment and leads her practice’s genetics program. Throughout her career she has done clinical work in a variety of countries including Honduras, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Kenya. Her interests include building relationships with oncologists around the world to enhance care in LMICs and genetic risk assessment in cancer.
